Our Story

Saddleback Church was founded in 1980 by Rick and Kay Warren in Lake Forest, California - in the Saddleback Valley. Today, more than 25.000 members are part of the Saddleback family. Next to the already established campuses in the United States, we have global campuses in major cities around the world, including the German capital. We have become one church in many locations! Saddleback Berlin was founded in October 2013 and has since become a young, vibrant, multicultural congregation.

What drives us

Every church is driven by something - whether it is tradition, events, personalities, or growth. We believe that in order for our church to be healthy, we need to be driven by the five New Testament purposes given to us by Jesus in the Great Commandment and the Great Commission: Worship, Fellowship, Evangelism, Discipleship, and Ministry. Everything we do at Saddleback is motivated by and built around these five purposes. We are a purpose driven church. To learn more about our understanding and application of these purposes, get a copy of the books The Purpose Driven Church and The Purpose Driven Life by Pastor Rick Warren.

Love in Action

The PEACE Plan is about ordinary people empowered by God making a difference together wherever they are. Over the years, this idea has expanded to a global movement of churches who share and demonstrate the love of Jesus in their communities and cities. We join in and partner with these churches all around the world to Promote reconciliation, Equip servant leaders, Assist the poor, Care for the sick, and Educate the next generation. Everyone in our church family is encouraged to get involved in personal PEACE (loving our neighbor), local PEACE (loving our city), and global PEACE (loving our world).

Small Groups

None of us was meant to walk through life alone. Berlin can be a lonely city and we believe the church should be the place for building authentic relationships. One of the best ways to make friends and grow in your faith is to start or join a small group. Our small groups are purpose driven as well, trying to balance the above mentioned five purposes. They get together once a week to study the Bible, pray, hang out, serve, worship, and grow together.

Get involved

Spend a few hours at Saddleback and you’ll hear a lot of talk about “ministry“. What exactly does that word mean? And why does everyone keep talking about it? In simple terms, it is the concept of serving others. This is one of the foundations of the Christian faith. And at Saddleback, we like to say that “every member is a minister“. That means that you can be a part of serving others in the church and in the city.
